Yukon Stone Sheep Hunting
Stone Sheep Hunts in the mountain ranges of the Yukon
Stone sheep hunts take place in
several mountains ranges accessible by aircraft and horseback
only. We hunt stone sheep on foot or horseback at elevations
of 4000 7000 ft. Our Stone sheep rams vary in coloration
from very dark and saddle backed to a light grey/brown Fannin
coloration. Stone sheep are in good supply and the number of
trophy rams offers excellent opportunity for the most discriminating
sheep hunter.
MacMillan River area stone sheep have superior genetics for
horn growth. Young rams with horn length exceeding 38"
is common, mature rams up to 45" have been harvested.
MacMillan River Adventures has a self imposed quota and a
miminum 8 1/2 year age requirement. By following our guidelines
we are ensuring a continued resource of mature Stone sheep
for our clients.
Horseback Stone Sheep Hunt
Our horseback camp is based from heated cabins or tents in the
mountain ranges, however you can backpack and set up a spike
camp in different areas while sheep hunting. The horseback sheep
hunts allow you ride out to remote locations and cover a large
hunting area. Hunters have to be in sheep shape
but this hunt is much less demanding than the backpack hunt.
Backpack Stone Sheep Hunt
The backpack Stone sheep hunts start out with a float plane
charter into a nearby lake or with a horseback ride to a drop-off
point on one of the mountain ranges. These hunts are only
for the physically fit and mentally prepared sheep hunter.
Both of our Yukon stone sheep hunting trips are 14 days with
12 full days of hunting, and offer great opportunities for
hunting other species.
